A battery inside the timepiece provides a current to the microchip circuit. This circuit then makes the precise tuning quartz crystal fork vibrate at about 32768 times per second. A different microchip circuit detects the crystal’s oscillations and morphs them into one electric pulse every second. These electric pulses drive the miniature stepping motor, convert electrical energy into mechanical power, and turn the gears. These gears then sweep the hands around your dial to record time. The very clear white dial is protected by a hardened sapphire crystal, which is highly scratch-resistant and good legibility is ensured by an anti-reflective coating. The red seconds hand is an unmistakable symbol for the Mondaine brand. Thewater resistance of the model is 30 m, which is sufficient for safe hand washing or light rain.
